2018 Tanzania in review [2018-10-29]

Planning for the 2018 projects in Tanzania started in late 2017, right as we returned from Arusha. It is gratifying to look back now and see that Reneal Team Tanzania was able to achieve our goals. Thanks to our partners at the Arusha District Council, Arusha Regional Office, Habari Node, and Arusha Node Marie – we couldn’t have done it without you! And of course a huge THANK YOU to our partners in the schools, the school heads and computer teachers who bring Reneal’s resources to the students.
Below is the summary we provided to Arusha District Council Executive Director Dr. Charles Wilson Mahera and Arusha Regional Administrative Secretary Mr. Richard Kwitega, highlighting Reneal’s 2018 accomplishments in Tanzania.
Greetings of Peace and Joy! We extend our deepest thanks to you and the Arusha District Council for your support of the work of Reneal International Education Outreach in Tanzania. We of Reneal IEO are grateful to be able to serve the schools in the area of ICT and have now equipped fourteen (14) of the schools in Arusha District with computer labs.
In 2018, Reneal IEO completed the following tasks:
1. Installed four new computer labs at secondary schools in Arusha District: Kiranyi, Kimnyaki, Sokon II, and Oldonyosambu Secondary Schools
2. Made significant computer hardware upgrades (both server and clients) at Mlangarini and Mukulat Secondary Schools
3. Executed major software updates, made repairs, and replaced damaged equipment at the ten previously installed computer labs (at Enyoito, Ilboru, Mateves, Mringa, Mukulat, Mlangarini, Mwandet, Nduruma, Oldadai, and Ilkiding’a Secondary Schools)
4. Deployed an additional 17 laptops as replacement units for attrition, additional seats for high-performing schools, or as spares
5. Conducted annual Reneal Super Users training for 21 computer teachers from all fourteen schools.
6. For the first time ever, Reneal held a School Heads Conference to familiarize the school heads with the resources of the system and the expectations for care and use.
The table on the next page provides a summary of the 2018 projects, including approximate value. Reneal IEO’s work relies on the generous donation of used computer equipment from many corporate and individual donors. The value of these donations is also included in the summary table, as are shipping costs to transport the equipment from the United States to Tanzania. The grand total for the 2018 Arusha projects is almost 21,700 USD or about 50 Million Tanzania Shillings. Teacher orientation training is offered for schools where the Reneal IEO system is installed, and the number receiving this training is also noted in the table.
In closing, we also want to acknowledge the invaluable assistance provided by professionals at Habari Node and Arusha Node Marie in support of this work. They, the Arusha District Council, and Arusha Region, especially Mr. David Nyangaka, have made Reneal’s work possible in Arusha. We are grateful to have such faithful and dedicated partners in serving the students of Arusha District!
