The visits continue [2014-08-15]

Neal and I have taken some vacation in the last couple of weeks, but our intern Jade and former student Jillian have kept the Reneal IEO wheels turning smoothly in the Philippines.  Jade and Jillian visited Tayud National High School in Consolacion, one of our 2014 projects, to see if anything needed to be changed or fixed.  They also met with the Computer Student Specialist (CSS) group at Tayud.  Jade and Jillian shared their own CSS experience while students at Compostela NHS, and as Jade noted, "I think they are inspired."  We are fortunate to be working with some fantastic IT teachers there at Tayud as well, who offer their own daily inspiration to the students!

Jade's report also indicates that a new software need has arisen at Tayud NHS (and probably other schools).  The new curriculum includes teaching students how to use Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools.  So Neal's work this week has been checking out the Open Source package LibreCAD.  Happily, LibreCAD 2.0.1 can be installed and runs well on the current system based on Xubuntu 12.04.  Neal has also finished the video streaming software, so we can begin getting those installed on the existing systems.
