Thank you Apto Solutions! [2021-01-26]

Reneal’s life-blood is used computers that can have a new life serving students in developing countries.  Right before the holidays, we were thrilled to receive a call from Jeff Jones, the CEO of Apto Solutions.  Apto Solutions (www.aptosolutions.com) is an IT Asset Disposition company based in Atlanta, specializing in extending the life cycle of IT assets and ensuring responsible recycling.  Jeff told us that Apto Solutions was looking for a non-profit with which they could partner to get used computers into the hands of those who need them.  Reneal’s entire Team is ecstatic at this chance to work with Apto Solutions to give these computers new life in public high schools in Tanzania.

Today Neal and I headed down to Apto Solutions’ local office to pick up about 60 laptops that had come in.  Many thanks to Tim Farrow (COO), Jake Julius (Director of Operations), and Gina Kopf (Marketing Manager) for facilitating the donation, and to Kevin and Curtis for their help in making it a safe and easy pick-up.  These laptops are absolutely perfect for use with Reneal’s server!  We will do a quick functional check, figure out exact disposition, and then pack them for shipment.

Meanwhile in Tanzania, Tanzania Country Director David Nyangaka has been evaluating candidate schools for the first round of installations in 2021 (tentatively slated for April-May).  The four selected schools will begin preparing a classroom to serve as a computer lab.  This includes building lab tables, providing chairs, installing window grills and a solid door for security, and adding electrical outlets.  As usual, we will work with our partners Habari Node and Arusha Node Marie to do the installations once the units arrive in Tanzania.  Reneal is also planning to enlarge some existing labs that are extremely active.

Reneal has big plans for later in 2021 as well.  We are so grateful to the folks at Apto Solutions for making this work possible.  As David frequently notes, “Together We Can!”
