So long Cebu [2016-11-05]

It is with a shock that we find ourselves back home at Reneal headquarters again, the 2016 work in Cebu completed.  The last couple of weeks ended up being a whirlwind; we’ll publish a recap next week that we shared with the Department of Education Division Offices for Cebu Province and Mandaue City.  Happily we were able to complete some unexpected work due to the arrival of much of the Polycom equipment we’d sent in August.

Here’s a quick summary of how the last two weeks unfolded:

+ All four of us (Neal, Rhog, Lloyd, and I) went to Carmen National High School to add an additional seven laptops to the new Senior High computer lab

+ Neal, Rhog, and Lloyd went to Arcelo Memorial National High School (Sir Jade’s home school) to upgrade the OS to Ubuntu 16.04 for beta-testing

+ I visited the Cebu Province and Mandaue City Division Offices to request computer teacher participation in the 2016 Reneal System Administration Training

+ Rhog, Lloyd, and I returned to Consolacion National High School to add an additional 14 laptops to their very actively used computer lab

+ The four of us, along with Ma’am Nerry Bugtai of Compostela National High School, made an evaluation visit at Jugan National High School in Consolacion

+ Neal, Rhog, Lloyd, Sir Jade, and I prepared our materials for the System Administration training

+ I participated in the Compostela National High School In-Service Training, providing a team-building seminar for all teachers and Reneal teacher orientation training for the new teachers

+ The Third Annual Reneal System Administration Training was held, with 16 participants from 11 schools – thanks to Sir Jezreel Buot and Carmen National High School for hosting us.  We were proud of Rhog and Lloyd for rising to the occasion and giving presentations.  Sir Jade also did a fabulous job!

+ Rhog and Lloyd headed north to troubleshoot at issue at Tominjao National High School and to help the new computer teacher at Kawit National High School resurrect the lab there

+ The four of us, along with Sir Raul, moved the computers in the science lab at Compostela National High School over to the AVR.

Another seven balikbayan boxes arrived just a few days before our departure, so the apartment is now full of equipment for the upcoming months.  Rhog and Lloyd will continue to deploy that equipment in our absence.  As always we depart Cebu with sadness, leaving behind dear friends, but we look forward to being back again in late January for the 2017 projects!
