Phase 1 continues [2021-05-16]

Since the last post, Reneal’s Team Tanzania and partners from Habari Node and Arusha Node Marie have continued their work.  Welcome Suye Secondary School and Elerai Secondary School to the Reneal family!  And tomorrow will bring a new computer lab at Kinana Secondary School.  Reneal is very excited to support these schools in the city of Arusha, bringing computers and learning materials to the students and teachers there.  Following completion of the new labs, Reneal and our partners will expand five existing Reneal computer labs in Arusha District.  These labs are very active already, and we are excited to provide additional seats in the lab for even more use by the students.

An important companion to the installation work is training for the teachers at each school. There are two components to the training.  The first is for the computer teachers who are responsible for administering the computer lab.  The basis for the training is the system administration manual which outlines regular operations as well as troubleshooting steps for problems.  Reneal Team Tanzania works with these computer teachers (called “Super Users”) to give them the tools to keep the lab running smoothly.

The second aspect of training is Teacher Orientation, and teachers in all subject areas are invited to attend this roughly 2-hour session.  This training focuses on sharing the educational content and programs in the Reneal system with the teachers.  The Reneal server is packed with videos, books, tutorials, and other off-line content for teaching in many subject areas.  An especially valued resource on the server is the repository of past Tanzania National Exams that students can use for review.
And even though we’re still in the throes of Phase 1 lab installations and expansions, our thoughts are already turning toward Phase 2.  Reneal Country Director David Nyangaka is working on school evaluations, and our generous donors at Apto Solutions are preparing the next set of used computer equipment for the Phase 2 projects.  We are so grateful to our partners, donors, and Reneal Team Tanzania for their support of this mission to bring computers to secondary school students in Tanzania!
