Foundations [2014-06-10]

Back in America…  Recovering from jet-lag, unpacking and sorting gear, following up on commitments made, and catching up on paperwork.  It doesn’t have the excitement of being in the schools with the students and teachers, but it’s all a part of laying a long-lasting foundation of support for past and future projects.

Today’s big task for me was reconciling the income and expenses from the last few months.  We track things to the penny (or Philippine centavo or Tanzanian schilling, as the case may be), so we can always be accountable to our donors and supporters.  Thankfully I love spreadsheets, so this is actually a fun activity for me!  Neal has been working on a way to easily stream a video to all clients in a lab; this should be a great tool for the teachers with the Khan Academy video repository available on the server.

There are more challenging tasks on the horizon for us, but the days this week serve as “vacation” to rest our minds and bodies after the long trip to the Philippines.  We should have the summary of the 2014 Philippines project up soon on the Reneal IEO website, along with the 2015 plans.  And we will soon be readying ourselves for the 2014 Tanzania projects. Departure is scheduled for September 29, and we saw the KLM plane (our airline to Tanzania) as we taxied in on Korean Airlines at San Francisco – a reminder of all that needs to be done between now and then.  However now is a time to enjoy the memories of people and times in the Philippines that have made the last four months so unforgettable.
