Cebu! [2015-01-10]

We’re here!  It was a long but smooth trip, and thankfully all of our baggage arrived with us.  Yesterday was devoted to spending time on campus at Compostela National High School, our “home school” from our U.S. Peace Corps days.  We mostly just visited with the teachers and principal there and caught up on the latest campus news.  We are living in a different apartment complex this year, so we’ve been getting ourselves organized there too with lots of help from our friends.  As usual, trying to get access to internet in the apartment is a challenge so we’ll be exploring options this weekend.

We have already been able to connect with several members of Reneal Team Philippines: our intern Jade, Ma’am Nerry, and Raul.  In fact, Jade and Raul waited for our arrival in the wee hours of Friday morning to let us into the apartment.  It’s so good to be home again!

We’ll be starting to pick up some of the needed computer equipment this weekend.  Jade will come with us Sunday on our shopping excursion.  We are excited to report that he is serving as a full-time substitute teacher right now at Compostela NHS.  He is teaching science to six sections of students, plus still teaching part-time at Cebu Technological University.  He has his hands full, but in typical Jade fashion, always finds a way to squeeze in a bit more!

We’re excited to begin the visits to the 2014 schools on Monday.  We have some updates to make to the servers, plus just see how things are going with the hardware and software.  As always, the amount of work to be done is a bit intimidating but one day at a time.  It’s so exciting to finally be starting!
