Breaking News [2013-03-31]

In an earlier post, I wrote about the scholarship program that Reneal IEO has sponsored jointly for the last four years with the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) pastor and congregation in Compostela.  Funds come from donations to Reneal IEO, and the program itself is administered by the scholarship committee at the UCCP.  Students were selected based upon need and grade point average.  Through this partnership eight students received their high school diplomas this year, including the class valedictorian.

This program has required tremendous dedication on the part of the scholarship committee, so we were unsure if they would want to begin again with another batch of students.  We met with the committee Easter morning to review the records for School Year 2012-2013 and to discuss future plans.  Reneal IEO is thrilled to report the committee is enthusiastic about initiating the selection process to identify ten new participants for the program for School Year 2013-2014.

Donations to the scholarship program can be made through the “How to Help” webpage on this website.  There is a Paypal link to make a contribution, or you can contact Reneal IEO at contact.reneal@gmail.com for more information.

We also received an update on the status of the Reneal IEO livelihood program which was initiated in early 2011.  Participants are the parents of the previous UCCP scholars who given the option to apply for a small one-year low interest small business loan, with repayment to be made over the following two years.  When the program ends in early 2014, Reneal IEO and the UCCP committee will reconvene to consider how best to reinvest the repaid loan funds.
