Off and Running in Phase 1 [2022-07-17]

I would never have guessed that I’d be reporting on FOUR new computer labs in less than a month since my last blog post!  Not only that, the recipient schools are far from our home base in Arusha: one in Dodoma Region and three in Manyara Region.  Welcome Ula, Nakwa, Bagara, and Komoto Secondary Schools to the Reneal family!  2022 Phase 1 is indeed off to a great start, with more new computer labs coming soon.

There are so many people and organizations to thank for this amazing progress.  First of all, this work was made possible by a generous donation of computer equipment from Apto Solutions (www.aptosolutions.com).  This is their second year of supplying Reneal with high-quality used laptops and other equipment, and we just could not have done it with them.  Supplying the financial support for these projects are Network the World and ClosingTheDivide (www.closingthedivide.foundation).

Reneal Country Director David Nyangaka worked closely with airport officials and the Tanzania Revenue Authority to ensure that the boxes of equipment for Phase 1 could quickly clear customs, with the Arusha Regional Office provided key transportation support.  Regional, District, Town, local, and school officials in Arusha Region, Dodoma Region, and Manyara Region have coordinated with David to prepare the computer rooms.  It is a big investment for a school to provide security, tables, chairs, and electrical outlets, and we are particularly grateful to the school heads for their commitment to this task.  Our local equipment suppliers, Khanbhai Electronics and Powercomputers, sourced some of the needed items for this effort.

Reneal Team Tanzania (Robert Nyangaka, Erick Mneney, Ashura Hamis, and Patrick Peter) helped organize the equipment, and part of the Team traveled to do the actual installations.  Our long-time partners Habari Node and Arusha Node Marie will be joining us for the installation work on the nearer schools.

We look forward to seeing the remaining six Phase 1 computer labs come into existence over the coming weeks!
