2022 Phase 1 begins! [2022-05-25]

I am very excited to follow the last blog post with news that the first box for 2022 Phase 1 has been packed!  There’s still a lot to do to get the shipment prepared, but we anticipate getting the equipment to Tanzania in late June.  Thanks to another generous donation from Apto Solutions (www.aptosolutions.com), 10 additional pubic high schools in Tanzania will receive computer labs!  We also plan to replace some very old units deployed in 2014 and 2015.

Monday I headed up to Apto Solutions’ San Leandro site to pick up the mice, monitors, and remaining adapters.  We are so grateful to the Apto Solutions Teams in both Atlanta and San Leandro for the high-quality hardware.  It will hopefully have a very long life serving students and teachers in Tanzania.  Testing and organizing is complete, so now comes the task of packing everything for the long journey to Arusha.

Tanzania Country Director David Nyangaka has been working with the selected schools so they will have their computer rooms ready before the equipment arrives.  We are excited to be expanding to schools in Manyara Region, plus adding a second lab in Dodoma Region.

In another exciting development, Reneal was contacted recently by a local Bay Area non-profit, ClosingTheDivide.  CTD was founded by high school students, and they have a mission very similar to Reneal’s: repurposing used but still usable computer hardware for underserved communities.  It is inspiring to see these entrepreneurs engaging their talents to help other young people succeed!  Reneal is very thankful for being selected to receive a CTD grant in support of the 2022 Phase 1 projects.  Thank you ClosingTheDivide!  Reneal is grateful for this new partnership.
