…3 …2 …1 [2016-09-04]

We’re on our way tonight!  Things are pretty well packed and ready to go.  I think all of our baggage is within the weight limit – our little scale has been getting a workout.  I am so thankful our shipments of computer equipment to Cebu don’t have a weight constraint!  Speaking of which, Katherine and I got three more boxes packed on Friday, with a total of 21 monitors.  Those boxes will go out right away when Neal and I get back in early November.  That only leaves 28 of the Free Geek monitors to pack yet, out of the 80 we received just a few short days ago!

Neal has been working pretty much non-stop this week to get his beta version of the 16.04 system ready.  He is really pleased with it.  There are some great new features and better performance.  No doubt there will be “surprises”, but with the help of Sir Jade we’ll get them figured out.

Our first few days in Cebu will be consumed with shopping – picking up the UPSs, voltage regulators, and power strips that we need for the five schools where we will be completing installation.  Since it is still cash-only in Cebu, I have sent a cash advance via Xoom.com; I’ll need to go to our local pawn shop in Compostela to pick up the money.  Neal will also be putting together the servers that we shipped ahead (we are bringing the hard disks in our carry-on luggage).  A huge pile of boxes, including those with the servers, are being held for us at Compostela National High School; they are so gracious to be our Cebu warehouse, when space in the school is in such short supply.  I’m sincerely hoping my notes that list the contents of the boxes are accurate!

With the help of friends, we’ll be getting our apartment set up too.  These first few days are always a challenge – organizing, scheduling, adjusting – but we’ll hopefully be in the flow soon.  This is what all of the collective hard work and preparation is for, and finally it has arrived!
